A structure fire at an occupied apartment building on Elkins Drive was reported on August 26, 2005, at 4 a.m. Everyone was safely evacuated from the building and the fire was quickly stopped.

A two vehicle accident took place on Dent's Run Road on August 27, 2005, at 7:30 p.m. Several people in a Dodge Caravan were not inured. However the man in this GMC Jimmy had to be extricated from his vehicle.

One man died following a three-vehicle accident on I-79 on October 11, 2005. The male driver of a Subaru Legacy struck another vehicle in the southbound lane of the interstate. The Subaru traveled a short distance in the southbound lane, then crossed the median. The vehicle ran across both lanes of traffic and into the embankment. At the same time a female driver in a Nissan saw the Subaru heading the wrong way in the northbound lane so she pulled onto the side of the road. The Subaru then traveled back toward the interstate and became airborne. The Subaru landed on top of the Nissan and then came to rest on the embankment. The driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Nissan escaped with minor injuries.
